Why it happens
Squirrels are active in daylight, so unlike rats or raccoons you hear them shortly after sunrise. They need an opening about the size of a golf ball, and once one animal establishes a route into your soffit the rest of the local population uses the same one.
The part people underestimate
Rodent incisors grow continuously, so squirrels gnaw constantly. Stripped wiring in an attic is a real fire risk and the main reason this is not a problem to sit on.

Common questions
Why only in the morning?
Squirrels are diurnal, so activity peaks at dawn and again a couple of hours before sunset, then stops overnight. If what wakes you in your your area house is at two in the morning, you are more likely dealing with rats or a raccoon, and the treatment differs.
Can I just block the hole?
Please do not. Sealing with animals still inside traps them in the structure, and they will either chew out through drywall or die in the cavity. We remove first, verify the space is empty, then seal.
How do you keep them out?
Exclusion work: screening vents, capping gable ends, closing construction gaps along the roofline and reinforcing chewed timber. Removal on its own simply advertises a vacancy.
